Coffee always tastes better when its created with fresh beans.
This is a fact. The question is how fresh is fresh? Well, at Delano we would answer
‘extremely’ fresh.
To create a very fresh coffee, the roasted and filter coffees must be brewed as quickly as possible. In this instance immediate consumption is good and wanton storage is bad. Therefore, in the effort to achieve ridiculously fresh coffee we deliver our roasts within days of creation.
A quick fact about coffee, freshness and the number 30. Ground coffee starts to go stale 30 seconds after grinding, coffee beans start to go stale after 30 minutes of the coffee bag being opened, and bagged and sealed coffee starts to go stale after 30 days. (But we always recommend that you use your coffee within a week).
To store your coffee, so it retains its freshest potential you need to make sure of two things. The container needs to be completely airtight, and the place you store the coffee needs to be cool in temperature and dark. If you want to store the coffee in a fridge or freezer, be aware the coffee can pick up flavour taints from the other foods very easily, and this can lead to some unwanted tastes when consuming the coffee, so caution is advised and a good quality piece of tupperware.
There you have it, everything you need to know about freshness and coffee, in a simple and straightforward manner. Follow these guidelines and you will always be drinking the freshest coffee.
